Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is Animal lovers BEWARE because this movie is a lot. This is the most serious-toned movie out of the three Guardians movies 100%. It’s full of not only emotions but also laughs. Now the biggest question going into this movie was if the Rocket storyline was going to be able to carry the weight of not only being the finale of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy but also being the last James Gunn Marvel movie for the foreseeable future.

I’m not the biggest Guardians fan. I didn’t have any super high expectations for this movie other than it was going to be a good laugh which it was. What surprised me was the amount of lore dropped in this movie because they spent a good amount of time building up the world and mythos of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now as far as pacing for this movie, it seemed to drag on in parts. I think a big contribution to this issue was the content loop specifically. The big slow-motion action scenes that transitioned to a linear narrative felt inconsistent and borderline frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, I think the fights were dope, especially because we got to see the chemistry between each member. The plot itself was simple which was a good approach being that this is the end of a trilogy. They made it worth it because of the gravity of the situation and how they decided keep raising the stakes.

The Rocket’s storyline didn’t disappoint; I attribute that to Chukwudi Iwuji’s performance as The High Evolutionary, the big bad of this movie. This helped me finally understand why the Guardian movies progress in such a chaotic way is simply because it is just a big DND campaign for super hero’s. Overall the major plot points hit the way they needed to regardless if it was a little cheesy.

I love where we stand at the end of the movie. But what makes Guardian’s of the Galaxy special is that it's about the ebbs & friendships while simultaneously saving the galaxy with laughter & music. I would enjoy Guardians more personally if it was a long-running show than a movie. Overall this movie was a great way to end this trilogy and send off for James Gunn.
