John Wick: Chapter 4

This movie was insane from start to finish. The big talking point surrounding this movie was how’s this movie going to be any different from the first three. The idea is that if you’ve seen one John Wick movie, you’ve seen them all, so going into this film, I wanted to see what they’re going to do to make John Wick: Chapter 4 memorable. Now don’t get me wrong, the main reason anybody goes to see a John Wick movie is for a non-stop revenge tour in a world of assassins and mercenaries, and like the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So instead of they chose to lean into the enigma that is John Wick and everything that makes it the greatest action movie franchise of all time.

The challenging thing about this being the fourth John Wick movie was that outside of the epic action scenes, this franchise is known for what are the things that are going to make me care about what going on in the plot. They did this by giving the supportive characters clear motivations and spending time establishing them in the world with flashbacks and key lore moments. On top of that, the cast performance was exceptional with stand-out performances from Bill Skarsgård as the Marquis aka the big bad of this movie, and Donnie Yen as Caine the final boss.

This movie kept me guessing because they continued to raise the stakes and find ways to make each encounter different from the last. I enjoyed this movie but, it was long and, I felt fatigued at some of the longer sequences. Even though this movie was fast-paced it slowed down at the right moments to raise the tension of pivotal plot points. As far as the plot itself what set this movie apart was the Marquis’s ambition. He wanted to not only get rid of John Wick the person but get rid of the idea of John Wick which set the tone for the whole movie. This movie surpassed my expectations and proved that John Wick: Chapter is not just another John Wick movie.
