Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the start of phase 5 which is a big deal. Yet my main question going into this movie was if Kang the Conqueror will become the big bad needed for the future of the MCU. This movie was just as funny as the previous iterations of Ant-Man. It also was filled with family moments galore especially when it came to Scott and Casey’s relationship as father and daughter. The main issue during this movie was that we needed more conflict between the protagonist and they relied too heavily on the antagonist played by Jonathan Majors and it sometimes fell flat. My favorite part about this movie was how fluently we are talking about space, time, and the multiverse.
Now a lot happened in this movie from establishing a whole realm to delivering the new big bad. This caused some pacing issues from unanswered questions in combination with pointless dialogue. The plot itself makes sense from an outline standpoint but the tension bled out cause they ran out of content. But Marvel is missing major lore moments to carry the plot because they are way too antagonist dependent and are not building up their heroes in the same capacity.
Overall I think this movie was good because for one I loved how Kang was built up. Now I’m still frustrated with Ant-Man as a character because it feels like Scott didn’t grow at all. I think this movie would have been better if not only Kang “won” but also if Scott and Hope got stuck in the Quantum realm for a certain amount of time. This movie felt like it wanted to be bigger than just another “Ant-Man” movie but they clipped their wings and didn't take that leap of faith. The Quantum realm itself was amazing and at the end of the day the good still out ways the bad in this movie. I'm excited for phase 5 after seeing all the different Kang variants and my biggest question now is who is Scott going to tell what he learned.
