Fast X
This movie is supposed to be the pinnacle of the Fast & Furious franchise with it being the tenth movie and they did not disappoint. The main question I had going into this movie was how much will this movie be anything different from the previous nine. They drove in space in the last one so what could they possibly have left in the tank? The first thing that comes to my mind is time travel but we will have to wait and see for part two because yes even though this movie was advertised as the last movie for the franchise they leave off on a major cliffhanger that I am not mad at but I can understand if you are. What stood out the most in this movie was Dante because of his "Joker" madman aesthetic while also being flamboyant was so fun to watch.
This has to be the best story in Fast & Furious history because what makes this movie cool is how deep the lore really goes and of course, the action was always going to be good. From the endless double crosses to the epic one-liners, this movie had everything you could want in an action movie. Then you add the main father & son revenge storyline along with the other two storylines following the rest of the crew and you have a meaty plot that keeps you invested until the end.
This movie was pretty long so there are moments that tend to drag and or repeat like the Dom and Dante that happen multiple times throughout the movie. Even though the situation changed and the level of tension changed it ended with a similar result which was a little disappointing. I will grant that they did a lot more driving than in the past which I enjoyed. The only plot point that I didn’t like was the way they would use The God’s Eye as a crutch to explain things that shouldn’t be possible. But I think the way that they dove deep into Dom's philosophy for life and the concept of choosing who gets to live and die by using Dante as a mirror was elite.
This movie works on multiple levels in my opinion because it has enough lore to keep the super fan engaged with the overarching narrative while also having enough action to be able to just turn your brain off for a little while and enjoy the spectacle. This movie broke barriers to bringing out the true message which at the end of the day might not even be enough to save the day.
Dante made this movie because he was the X-factor in this movie. He gave us the feeling that essentially nobody was safe. What made it worth the watch was the fact that he chose methodical destruction as a way to get back at Dom. Even with Jacob’s sacrifice because the fast and furious franchise lives in that state of ambiguity you don't know what to believe until they show you. Other than that the sheer amount of cameos we got from the Fast & Furious mythos has me hyped for part two of Fast X and I need to do a marathon now.
